Description
The remnants of the tricuspid and pulmonary valves appear normal. On the ventricular surface of
the aortic cusps there are large vegetations; there are fewer vegetations on the aortic surface.
Vegetations extend onto the endocardium below the level of the valve and there is a vegetation
partly blocking the origin of the left coronary artery. There are two small yellow areas on the cut
surface of the left ventricle; these may be artefact, but small areas of infarction from the vegetation
at the origin of the left coronary artery cannot be excluded. This is a very old specimen and the
history of the patient is not known.
